Making a statement here.

#TheDivineCervine is a dA group for deer artwork. Awesome, I love deer. And art. There's one thing getting on my nerves: they have an 'anything with antlers' policy. Think I'm joking?

Here are some examples (I do not aim to target any of the artists, it's not their fault)

I like deer, I think they're beautiful. I even draw deer on occasion. I'm not doing this to troll the group, as I submit my own artwork there on occasion. I'm doing this because it's a little insulting to people who like deer. By allowing anything with antlers, it's more or less glorifying antlers; the only important part of a deer is its antlers. At the same time, they don't allow images of trophy hunters displaying their antlers. They are not much better than said trophy hunters (I have nothing against hunters, personally) And lest we forget, most does don't have antlers. Could I theoretically submit a picture of a dog and say it's female and deer like but because it's female it doesn't have antlers?

These pictures did take me a little bit of time, actually. A few hours, maybe 2? I even went for biological correctness and gave the Nintendoe reindeer antlers, being that female reindeer have them.

I know I'm not the only one annoyed with this policy. I'm not saying they should remove the pictures already accepted, unless they chose to do so. But I would like them to stop accepting new ones. If you agree, comment or favorite or heck, even make your own 'Objects with Antlers' picture and submit it to the group.

Images from Wikimedia Commons (which are free use)

There will be a part two.

ohmy, you were serious when you said they took anything with antlers in the comments of my Ferox pic. >.> STRANGENESS. Well. I have a semi-terrible photomaip I did a few years ago where I put white-tailed deer antlers on my dog. I'll have to see if I can find that, now won't I.... x] And submit a female deermouse. They have deerlike markings, or at least I've seen a picture of one that did. I would so love to do that.
This is like that wolf art group (can't think of which one at the moment, but I occasionally submit there) letting in a ton of dog pictures, only worse. >.>

On a completely unrelated note, thank you for having nothing against hunters. Alot of people around dA seem to think all hunting is a terrible, barbaric practice. In my area everyone's got deerhunters in their family though. It's not uncommon that several guys don't show up to school on the opening week of hunting season, even. And it's something of a good thing, since long ago all of our larger predators (cougar and such) were killed out, and the deer tend to overpopulate. :salute:

No exaggeration. Even on their front page, they say they included 'antlered creatures'. Meaning more or less anything as long as you scribble some 'antlers' on it. Considering that this picture was accepted to the group and I received no staff feedback, I'm assuming they don't find any problems with their current policy.

Meaning it's time for me to open up photoshop. And I encourage others who are annoyed with this to do the same.

And yes, I have nothing wrong with hunters that follow all the proper procedures. I received a lot of flack on WQ back in the day when we allowed open debate about hunting for my standpoint, however.

That's pretty bad. >.> I wonder if the situation's still the same? I bet it is. But what would happen if someone were to submit a picture of a male deer's skull? That's got antlers. But could also be taken as a hunter's trophy picture? ... Seems to me that they should either revise the policy, or create a group for art with cervine antlers. Whut's with these misnamed theme groups?

Yeah. I mean, I prefer it if they get all the use of the animal they can instead of just chopping off the head/antlers, and most hunters I know do. They have the meat processed and all. It's pretty good xD Ohmy, that sounds like a topic locker for sure.

The situation is still the same. They accepted Green Hair with Antlers without any comments. So the message that sends me, is they are content with their policy and do not intend to change it. Sadly, no one submitted similar photoshopped objects to the group as I had hoped.

Yes, I'd like for them to get as much as out of it as possible. However I know it's really not possible to user everything, not in modern times. Those "Absolutely no hunting" people just, rather annoy me ^^;

Do they not realize that they're allowing protests against themselves to be displayed in their own gallery? O.o
I thought of a place where my dogdeer photomanip might be, by the way. I have yet to check it, but it's likely :]

lol no xD And they might be looked at a bit strangely if they walked around carrying their things in dried ungulate organs :iconawesomefaceplz: I think that used to be done by hunters long ago. Yes, those do get rather annoying. Humans, as omnivores, were sort of designed to eat meat and therefore hunt animals. Granted this is no longer absolutely necessary for many of us, but still... xD
