EDIT: Totally forgot to add "The Meek". And I just started reading a comic called Maggot Boy which is looking pretty good so far but I'm not far enough to say if it's good or bad. So...here's a plug anyway: [link]

Gahh I’ve been so not looking forward to this follow up because I knew it was going to be time intensive. But I’ve out it off for too long and some people have been poking me about it. So let’s get this over with. It's absurdly long.

Here’s a list of comics I generally enjoy reading. Let me say how hard it is finding ones I like. However, just because I enjoy reading them does not mean that everyone will, or even that they are above average quality. Chances are what I look for and what you look for in a comic are very different things. Especially because I ended up including so few animal comics, mostly because…there are so few good ones (or at least ones that I like)

Also, I did have some guidelines for what I picked. First of all, it had to either be a finished comic, or a comic that is actively updating (or making an effort to) I would have loved to have included Ever After ([link] or TLK3: Shadowlands ([link] since they were both pretty good and had a lot of progress made, but as far as I’m concerned, they’re inactive. Go ahead and read them because it’s still worth it, but keep in mind they are more or less dead projects.

Wurr: I love Wurr. It doesn’t have fancy colors, digital artwork, gripping drama, brooding romance, or sparkly wolves. It had deformed canines, traditional grey pencils, and personality. When you read the first few pages you’ll probably think “This is just another war story”, until about page 3, when it takes a new twist on an old story. I love the character designs, so much. All of the canines (hellhounds, although frankly they still look wolf-like) suffer from mutations, some of which are helpful, some of which serve no use, and some of which make like more difficult. It’s not just wings and horns and multiple tails. Try boar-snouts, fingers coming out of your ribcage, and having a tongue on your eye. That’s originality. And of course I love the general style of it, and how expressive the artist is; the characters have the best expressions. Of course the comic does have some negatives, one being that the story is rather slow, although unlike with Off White I’m more alright with the pacing. It’s almost at 40 pages now (progress!) but I’ve enjoyed the 40 pages of work, even if the plot is sort of just hanging there waiting to be dropped. Another problem is the artist doesn’t always update frequently, although as I also said with Akreon’s work, you can’t blame the artist too much. WolfPearl is an art student, and college is never easy. Either way, even if you don’t like the story or think its too slow, you can still enjoy the awesome character designs and facial expressions.

Grim Tales from Down Below: Never said the comics had to be on DA. And as much as I loath anything fan-derived, this is such an intriguing piece of work. Don’t get me wrong, the artist is a bit creepy, but I still enjoyed this comic. For those of you familiar with “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy”, think of it as a continuation. But it’s hardly child friendly, this is a very dark and morbid comic. What is really interesting is the artist includes characters from dozens of old cartoons, both from Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. The artwork improves over time, and becomes really in-depth towards the end. Because it does end. That’s right, it’s a completed comic, and I believe the artist is working on a continuation to follow it. Like I said it’s still a little creepy and there are some loose ends in the story, but I still enjoyed it. The style of artwork is an interesting mix of taking the original characters and adapting them into a new style.

Canine Tales- The great Separation: I need to go back and reread this but I am lazy and have not. The weird thing is I don’t even know what I like about this story. The artwork is not something you’d compare to the big-name artists, but the style fits the story and I couldn’t see it any other way. The plot itself isn’t something that unusual. But the comic does have a lot of humor, and there’s something about it that’s just different than other stories. There are plenty of pages to keep you busy, and updates are usually not that far in between. And despite that Ashley is redoing old pages, she still keeps up with making new ones. The character designs are unusual in that they actually look like dogs, and not wolves. You can tell character apart, which is good because there are a lot of characters. The artist also seems to understand the use of imagery, and when to use certain techniques as opposed to over-killing them. Even though one could argue that the artwork is unprofessional, I think Ashley has one of the closest grasps to professional format, as far as panels and effects go. The major downside is that you may have to read it two times to get the whole story because there’s lots of characters and lots of pages, but I still recommend. It’s not a comic for people who are used to the generic wolf comics, so don’t go in expecting it to be like what you’re used to.

Lackadaisy: Of course. It’s become fairly popular, although I don’t know if it’s reached the wolf comic crowd. It’s a story of anthropomorphic cats in the era of prohibition running an underground alcohol facility. You heard me right. You can find it on DA but it’s easier to find on the actual website. There are quite a number of pages to this one, and once again this is a comic done traditional-style with no colors. The style is very old-fashioned with a sepia tone to it instead of grey/black-white. The characters are fun and the expressions are priceless. The story is generally easy to follow, but I still like going back to read old pages just because they’re amusing. Pages can get pretty dialog heavy, although I wouldn’t call it out as a bad thing. However, the newer pages have become increasingly more dialog heavy, and the story has reached a bit of a dry spot. I believe this is only temporary, as all stories reach some point where you just have to get past a certain point before it becomes interesting again. It’s about as professional as amateur comics get (unless it’s being published and I haven’t heard about it yet)

The Meek: Ack, I completely forgot about The Meek. Just go look at it for yourself. Just, don't mind the nakedness of the main character. (insert a better review here)

Zenith: I actually forgot this and had to go back after finishing the others to write this one in, so I apologize that I won’t include more info. It’s a story about dolphins (ha) and I guess it’s either inspired by or loosely based off of the Echo The Dolphin games. It has a lot of pages, and the occasional humor. There are parts I don’t like (and if I wasn’t so worn out from writing everything else I’d talk about it more) Over all its different, its pretty to look at, and the story will keep you interested. The backgrounds may not be engaging and busy, but they work so well with the comic.

Law of Talos Comics
-I loved a lot of the entries people did for this. And because they're still comics, I’m going to add them too. Law of Talos was an original character tournament where people make up a character and have their character fight other characters. Each person make a comic for each battle, and the judges choose which they like better. The winner's comic becomes canon and they move on to the next round. With that said, I'll try to be brief

Black Lillian's Annie and the Professor : They did win the tournament, and I fully agree with the judges. The style for each comic was amazing; it was black and white (I seem to enjoy non-color comics)for most of the time but did have bursts of color. The artwork was detailed, yet at the same time it was simple, and the backgrounds were lovely too. The characters of course are the centerpiece because they really were fun and enjoyable. And of course, I’m always a fan for literary allusions, along with running gags. I’d love to say more but I’m trying to be short with these, so read for yourself.

Unknown-Person&'s Karl : Yes the guy is an amazing animator. But this is a comic rant, so that’s my focus. His style was very simplistic and cartoony, but it was very effective for the tone of his character. Unknown’s style is pretty distinct (the character rarely have necks for some reason) and I wouldn’t call it ‘anime’, it’s very much cartoon-like, but not. One thing I thought was different was that his pages were long, I mean loooong, vertically. They were continuous in a downward pattern, while lots of comic artist prefer a more balanced approach. I thought it worked pretty good. And of course, Karl was a fun character. Not going to say more, read for yourself (and check out his animations too)

ConcentrationMoon's The Chimbly Sweep : Yet again, a character everyone seems to love, so I’m going to focus more on the art (haha) ConcentrationMoon’s art is just….in a league of its own. It was meant to mock other comics. The whole basis of his entries are more or less to mock the tournament and point out plot holes and inconsistencies. Yet again, another comic that isn’t in color. The pages are funny, and the sound effects are amazing (with such classics as “ker-punch-hole-in-the-wall”) Do read this if you get the chance.

CyrilTheWizard's Murphy : I’m running out of things to say and clever ways to make the same statements sound different. The style is unique (and in glorious extra-color), the character is funny, the story is enjoyable. Go read it. Do it.

Honorable Mentions
Going to be very brief on these.

Brymstone    A comic on DrunkDuck; has a good amount of pages. Story may not be appealing to all, and I don’t know what to say about it besides that it kept me interested. I guess that’s all.
[link]

Any of the short comics done by Droemar: They’re short, they’re sweet, they’re black-and-white, and they have such depth in them. How a comic so short can have so depth is beyond me.
[link]

Off White: Wanted to clarify that I still read this, even if there are things I don’t like. I already reviewed it once though, and won’t do it again. It’s still worth a read, but most of DA has heard of it or seen it by now.
[link]

Raine Dog : Simple colors, interesting story, good pacing. Figure the rest out for yourself.

Webcomics of Mention
Awkward Zombie : All gamers know about this comic. Its clever, witty, and always fun.

I sent the person a note asking if they'd like a review and got no response. Are you the comic creator? I will only review an obscure comic if requested by the comic's creator.

Send it my way and I'll be sure to have a read. As long as it's online, that is. I don't review comics available only through purchase.

Lovely reviews. I spent the past twenty minutes reading each individual review thoroughly. You can call me weird but I nearly squealed of happiness when you mentioned in one of your reviews that you were sick of the whole "Humans are bad" message. It's true! Most of these comics have that message. To make the story short, I enjoyed reading the reviews.

And are we allowed to make recommendations for future comic reviews?
