Wanted: OCT that's not run by idiots, with competent hosts. Why is this so hard to find? The one I was looking into listed themselves as accepting "Any" medium but apparently won't accept literature. I'm surprised so many of these tournaments are still excluding literature, especially when so many struggle to get enough auditoners. The other one is humanoid only, but less humanoid and more "looks exactly like a human". So no dice for Ivan. I've been looking into one for next year, possibly in the summer, as by then I imagine Revival will have ended. I'd like to try something, more serious this time >> But finding a competent host running an OCT that has a decent plot/theme/idea behind it is....rather difficult.

Now that that's out of the way. I'm moving out, effective December 31st. To Tallahassee. For FSU. In an apartment with three other strangers. Should be fun. Trying to finish up any art things I need to do so NAG ME LIKE CRAZY.

And I did end up finishing NaNoWriMo. Cannibal doggy goodness.

Happy Non-Denominational Winter Season Time Greetings! What are your plans for the holidays, if any? Oh oh, and can any recommend some good books?

Dunno about OCTs, but most things in life seem to be run by idiots :noes:

NAGNAGNAGNAG, have you read my story yet? C:

Books. I'm currently reading a pretty good one for school. It's called Sophie's Choice. I love the writing style. I'm not quite halfway through so I don't know how anything turns out though |D

IT HAS BEEN HIDDEN, AS YOU COMMANDED!

And you speak truth. Sad, sad truth.

YES! NAG ME! Perhaps when I am sitting stranded in my apartment, alone with nothing to do, I will finally say "HEY IMMA READ THIS STORY WHILE SIPPING TEA AND ENJOY THE AMAZINGNESS OF ITS WORDS!" Because I am horrible at remembering to do things D= And tomorrow I leave so tonight I'm frantically running around, arms flailing, making sure everything is done and I'm caught up on DA stuff.

Oooh what's it about?

HUZZAH

Yes. Oh yes.

Yes, that is a BRILLIANT idea! :dummy: I shall continue to nag you periodically C:
Hm. If you can find some feathers you can hold them while your flailing your arms in order to pretend you're a bird. Other than that I have no useful packing suggestions. :B

It's set after WWII, and the main character is a guy who's moved to New York from the South to become a writer. It seems to center on his relationship with this one couple, one of whom (Sophie) is a victim of a concentration camp, and the other is um... strange. I think he's mad actually. One minute he can be an absolute terrible monster, but the next he's genuinely what's normally considered a great guy. It's interesting.

I used to collect feathers so I have a large number of them (enough to construct several small birds) So this is plausible!

Sounds unusual =D I shall have to raid the local library to forage up a copy of said unusual literature book thing of many much words. Not stream of conscious I hope?

Ah, this is good :D A bird skull or two would really complete it though.

Oh yes you will :D And nope. Though what some would call "wordy," (personally I love that style) I find it very readable ^^

Considering I'm going to be (attempting) to run my own OCT in the upcoming year, I may be able to shed some light on the lack of literature acceptance.

Consider the merits of both literature and visual media. While both rely on some of the same criteria (intriguing characters, good storytelling), there are also some vast differences. Visual media relies on pictures to tell it's story, while literature has its prose. While both are equally good, it's very difficult to judge the two evenly. You can't judge the visual flow of a written entry, and a visual entry cannot survive on its dialogue alone, its only written component.

You may also find yourself with a judge or two who are uninterested or unwilling to read a literature entry. For them, it's easiest to glance over "all those words" and then give their vote to the visual media. The writing isn't inferior; it's just the easy route. And if you had a panel of judges just for writers, that can become even more unfair. So most OCT's take a compromising route and accept only visual entries, but allow for writer-artist teams.

Regarding your situation, you could always inquire if an OCT accepts a "storybook" -like entry, a page mostly of prose with a few drawings on it. This way you can still do your literature, and participate in a visually dominant OCT.

And in regards to the "incompetently-hosted OCT claiming to accept any medium to get more traffic", to paraphrase two of your comments, the host asked OCTFollowers to change their medium listing about a week ago, when another user inquired about writing. It is not his fault if OCTFollowers has not yet changed the entry.
